St. Ives soothing lotion (oatmeal & shea butter)

The product: St. Ives soothing lotion. A favourite of mine. I’ve been using it on my body for a good many years. Let me tell you about it.

First, the bottle: It’s rectangular in shape, with an inward curve on the right side. It’s made of a somewhat squishy, yet strong plastic (and, according to the info sticker on the back and the engraving on the bottom, is recyclable). It’s approximately 19.3 cm (7.6 inches) tall, 8.4 cm (3.4 inches) long, and 4.5 cm (1.7 inches) at its widest part. The bottle is a simple white colour, with info stickers on the front and back; both sides have a shared blue and beige theme, with green text on the back. The front sticker shows the brand and logo, an of a bunch of almonds at the top, an image of some shea butter at the bottom, the type of lotion, what has been added to the lotion, what it is made of, what isn’t in the lotion, and how much lotion is in the bottle. The back sticker re-states some of the information from the front, along with a description of how the lotion should work once applied, ingredients, directions on how to use apply it to your skin, info on how green the production of the bottle allegedly was (I cannot speak to that, I was not there), and a little smattering of contact info for the company and a couple additional things they make. There is also a barcode. All-in-all, a lot of information for a bottle of lotion, but much of it appears necessary. Most of it is in small print, though, so you may need glasses. The pump spout is very nice.

The lotion: There’s 600 mL per standard bottle, which should be enough to last you for a while (unless your skin is very dry). The lotion itself is of a whitish colour, with the subtlest hints of beige, if you look closely. It’s soft, walks the delicate line of thick-or-thin beautifully, is creamy, and is cool to the touch once pumped onto your skin. It also has a pleasant smell (perhaps a bit too pleasant, as it sort of makes me hungry).

My personal experience: As stated above, I find the smell wonderful. I also find the lotion itself to do just as it says on the bottle. I tend to use it after showering and washing my hands, and once rubbed in, it turns my skin from dry-and-uncomfortable, to soft, smooth, and moisturized. It absorbs fairly quickly, and doesn’t leave me feeling greasy.

Summary: This lotion moisturizes you and leaves you feeling soft. It also smells nice, and the bottle is pleasant to look at it (if hard to read in some places, without glasses).

Recommended: If you have dry skin, if you like feeling soft and smooth.

Rating: 10/10, will be moisturizing with it again.
